2013 Antle Syrah

2013 Antle Syrah

This is a wine with big flavors but is incredibly balanced at the same time. Heady aromas of black currant, sandalwood, graphite, pipe tobacco, tar and vanilla inspire. Flavors of cocoa, plum and toasty oak round out the experience with a long finish. This is a wine to be decanted and savored!

Winemaker Notes
This is our very first Syrah from this vineyard. We received 5.1 tons on September 17, 2013 and destemmed it into a stainless steel tank where we punched it down several times a day during fermentation. We then drained and pressed it into a tank where it settled and finished malolactic fermentation and then it was barreled-down into French Oak barrels.
Vineyard Notes
The grapes for this wine were sourced from the Antle Vineyard (aka Pinnaclacitos Chalone), which was originally planted by Dick Graff in 1989. This historic vineyard is a pleasure to behold: it sits in a protected southwest- facing dell overlooking the Salinas Valley. The gnarly old vines surrounded by the striking rock outcroppings of the Pinnacles area makes for a tremendous scene that reminds one of days gone by in California. In a nutshell, it was a pleasure & privilege to work with a piece of history! Clone: Phelps Clone
