2013 Palisades Pinot Noir
Cima Collina produces many Pinot Noirs, but “Palisades” layers mystery on top of fruitiness.
The 2013 Palisades Pinot Noir from Cima Collina beckons with a comely smile. The first impression is bright, like bursting red cherries.
Yes, the pleasant introduction is expected. Most people know Pinot Noir produces wines prized for their veiled allure. Yet there is something different here. The charming promise comes without a balancing fear of remorse. Only a few hushed suggestions – whispers of tobacco-scented oak, toasted spice, dabs of vanilla and split balsa – give you pause to contemplate, but it’s so easy to return to the fruit.
Yet this is not a big, fruit-forward wine. The bright, swirling cherry is always present, though remains wrapped in many veils – reaching to you, tempting you, but never shedding its elegant mystique. Winemaker Annette Hoff Danzer has pulled off something remarkable – a wine that is fresh and appealing, but also nuanced and elusive.
So you can have your contemplative Pinot Noir and just drink it, too.
