2015 Antle

2015 Antle "Phelps Clone" Syrah

Heady, concentrated aromas of black currant, sandalwood, graphite, pipe tobacco, tar and vanilla inspire. Flavors of cocoa, plum and oak round out the experience with a long finish. This is a wine to be decanted and savored!

Winemaker Notes
2015 was a long & mild growing season caused by a warm winter in which the grapes flowered early so although we picked early in September the grapes experienced a long hang time which increased flavor while keeping sugars relatively low. We racked and blended 6 barrels of this wine and chose not to use any new oak for this year. This is a big, bold style of Syrah while being relatively low in alcohol.
Vineyard Notes
The grapes for this wine were sourced from the Antle Vineyard (aka Pinnaclacitos Chalone), which was originally planted by Dick Graff in 1989. This historic vineyard is a pleasure to behold: it sits in a protected southwest-facing dell overlooking the southern Salinas Valley. Gnarly old vines are surrounded by the striking rock outcroppings of the Pinnacles area makes for a tremendous scene that reminds one of days gone by in California.
